About us

We are a young group of scientists at the heart of California. Our interests involve fundamental and applied organometallic chemistry. We combine inorganic and organic techniques to discover and understand new chemical reactions.

RESEARCH IN THE AREVALO LAB

Organometallic Chemistry and Sustainable Catalysis

SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF ORGANOMETALLIC COMPLEXES

We are interested in the synthesis of transition-metal coordination or organometallic complexes with novel properties and applications. Our main goal is to develop new synthetic routes and explore the reactivity of the complexes.

DISCOVERY OF CATALYSTS FOR SUSTAINABLE PROCESSES

Sustainable catalysis is at the core of green chemistry. Our focus is placed on the discovery of Earth-abundant transition-metal catalysts to synthesize highly versatile molecules from inexpensive feedstocks.

MECHANISTIC STUDIES TO LEAD CATALYST DESIGN

We perform mechanistic studies to guide the rational design of catalysts and functional molecules. Stoichiometric reactions, kinetics analysis and NMR monitoring of reactions help us to identify intermediates and understand structure-activity relationships.

JOIN US!

We are always seeking for motivated graduate, undergraduate students, and postdocs to join the lab.

Interested students are encouraged to e-mail Rebeca at rebecaarevalo@ucmerced.edu or rarevalo.ucm@gmail.com.

Graduate students that are interested in joining will need to submit an application to the graduate school at UC Merced.

We are currently considering postdoctoral applications! - click here for more information.
